Department Overview

Fleet Maintenance is a part of PG&E s Transportation Services Department.
We operate out of 6 areas in the PG&E service territory.
The Fleet Maintenance Department provides vehicle maintenance and service to PG&E owned and leased vehicles and equipment.

Position Summary

This is an International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 1245 represented classification, which has over 100 years of experience representing employees at PG&E.
This job is subject to collective bargaining.

Field Garage Mechanic C s are responsible for lubrication, maintenance, repairs, and miscellaneous service work on all types of equipment and vehicles.
Individuals must be able to work in various work environments including confined spaces and extreme weather conditions.
A Field Garage Mechanic C will be required to drive equipment and vehicles and this position requires 100% travel.

This position is a DOT (Department of Transportation) covered classification and is subject to random drug and/or alcohol screening.


Responsibilities:

  • Must work safely at all times as defined by PG&E s safety standards and procedures
  • Inspect components on vehicles/equipment and document adjustments needed
  • Perform preventive maintenance, oil and filter changes, and automotive services at factory-recommend intervals
  • Use hands in a dexterous manner to manipulate various tools and perform repairs as needed
  • Drive to remote facilities and job sites to service and maintain vehicles and equipment
  • Drive mid-size, heavy-duty vehicles, specialized equipment and cars
  • Transport vehicles to and from contracted repair facilities
  • Perform off-site errands to pick up parts/supplies and make deliveries
  • Responsible for fueling and performing safety inspections of vehicles
  • Maintain records of completed work by notes and/or computer
  • Maintain job area in a clean and safe order and ensure materials are properly stored
  • Maintain ethical, professional, and courteous relations with contractors and clients
  • Perform as a team member with all employees
  • Comply with all corporate facility standards and company policies
  • Manage a high volume of maintenance tasks with frequently changing priorities while maintaining professional demeanor
  • Communicate effectively with fellow team members and Managers both verbally and written

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must possess a High School diploma, GED or equivalent work experience
  • Must possess and maintain a valid DMV Medical Card by Day 1 of hire
  • Must possess a valid California Class A driver s permit by day 1 of employment
  • Ability to work in all types of weather extremes and conditions
  • Ability to drive safely in all weather and road conditions
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds a minimum of one time a day
  • Must be able to wear company provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, extended hours, nights, weekends, and/or overtime (scheduled or ad hoc)


Qualifications:

  • Previous Hiring Hall Field Garage Mechanic C or Garageman experience
  • Maintenance experience
  • 1
    year experience as an automotive mechanic
  • Demonstrated experience with computer equipment (computer keyboard and mouse)
  • Demonstrated experience with automotive parts and equipment
  • Previous/current PG&E experience
  • Previous/current Hiring Hall experience
  • Military experience
  • Graduate or currently enrolled in an approved Power Pathway Program
  • Live within 50 miles of headquarters
