Description:
This position will work closely with admissions, records, and financial aid staff to advise new students (e.g. develop academic plans, evaluate transcripts, proctor assessment exams, etc.)
Provide academic advising to returning students, individually or in groups, about college policies, programs of study and degree options.
Provide students with information about alternatives and possible consequences of academic decisions.
Assisting with recruitment and fostering campus/community partnerships with the public schools, business and industry and local economic development.
Support career services by counseling students on career options and guiding their development of job search skills.
Coordinate special projects and events. Maintain current knowledge of all the degree programs offered by the college.
Work closely with instructors to connect students to academic support.
Track retention, authorize add/drops, and conduct degree audits. Keep advising statistics and other reporting documents up-to-date.
Assist with retention-based workshops, including but not limited to time management, study skills, test-taking strategies, and financial literacy.
Responsible for contacting students who have recently dropped out to build retention.
Assist in the development of placement and transfer related programs, activities, and materials to foster student success.
Assist in the planning and facilitation of special events, such as information sessions, orientations, etc., to support student engagement and success. Other duties as assigned. (12- month position)
Education and Work Experience Requirements-
Bachelor's degree and three years related experience preferable in higher education. Masters degree preferred (Student Affairs or Counseling).
Familiarity with and willingness to learn technology and data driven systems, and social networking.
Ability to exercise judgment.
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
High energy level, stamina.
Willingness to learn and to take direction
Resourcefulness, initiative, and flexibility.
Skill in communicating effectively, both orally and in writing.
Ability to travel to various locations within the service region.
Must be willing to learn constantly, have good organizational skills, be team-oriented and perform all interactions with the highest level of customer service and professionalism.
Must work well under pressure; deal with changing circumstances and priorities.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
