Engineering Student Assistant- Technician/Field Work (Stockton, California)

DescriptionThe California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), District 10 Construction Office, is seeking to hire two student assistants to assist Construction Engineers in a wide range of assignments within the unit that includes assisting field reviews, performing engineering calculations, and assisting Field Engineers with all phases of construction.
RequirementsConditions of EmploymentThis is a part-time, temporary, non-benefited, student position.
Employment in all positions with University Enterprises, Inc.
is dependent upon the mutual consent of University Enterprises, Inc.
and the employee.
This means that either University Enterprises, Inc.
or the employee can, at any time, terminate the employment relationship at will, with or without cause.

PrerequisitesMust be a college student attending classes during the regular term (fall, spring, and winter, if applicable), at one of the accredited colleges or universities on our affiliation list.

pdf Students must be enrolled in at least six-semester units or nine quarter units for undergraduate students; four-semester units or six quarter units for graduate students.

Majors/Fields of StudyEngineeringWork ScheduleFlexible workdays and work hours, Monday - Friday, between 8 AM - 5 PM.
Final work schedule will be determined by the supervisor.
Additional Work ScheduleStudent Assistant and Graduate Assistant employees generally work up to 24 hours per workweek (Sunday - Saturday) during the academic year and up to 40 hours per workweek during breaks; (winter, spring, and summer).
Minimum Qualifications Must maintain a minimum cumulative 2.
0 GPA.
Must complete each term with minimum unit requirements for Undergraduate and Graduate student classifications.
Proof will be collected at the end of each Spring and Fall term.
Ability to apply engineering classroom instructions to work situations; learn procedures and methods.
Work well with others in a team environment.
Satisfactorily complete assignments.
Produce neat, concise, accurate, and timely work; and follow instructions.
Preferred Qualifications Under the amendment to Government Code Section 18220, state agencies shall give preference to a qualified applicant (up to 26 years of age) who is, or has been, a dependent child in foster care, a homeless youth, a formerly incarcerated youth, or a victim of human trafficking.
Must possess the ability to:
apply engineering classroom instructions to work situations; learn procedures and methods; work well with others in a team environment; satisfactorily carryout assignments; do neat and accurate work, and follow instructions completely.
Must possess knowledge of Excel, Adobe Acrobat, and Word processing software.
Duties and Responsibilities Assist in checking shop drawings and construction submittals for electrical and electronic work related to Transportation Engineering.
Assist the Electrical inspectors in inspection of contractors work during all phases electrical construction activity on the project.
Assist the Field Engineers during all phases of construction, including earthwork operation, roadway paving, roadway excavation, drainage work, and other construction operation.
Assist in performing engineering calculations, project schedules, and reviewing project documents using excel spreadsheet, computer scheduling software, and other computer applications.
Able to use Project Resource and Schedule Management (PRSM) database and other report software that will aid the Construction Seniors in monitoring support cost, schedule, and progress of various projects.
Assist in filing, copy work, date entry, archiving, and preparing and compiling various reports, graphs, charts, and letters.
Physical RequirementsSit for extended periods; frequently stand and walk; manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication; use of office equipment including computer workstations, telephones, calculators, copiers, printers, and scanners with or without reasonable accommodation.
Working ConditionsWork is performed in an office or in a field environment.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
